The procedure for the screening is a simple test in which the screener (nurse) looks at the child's back (spine, shoulders, hip level, etc.) in the standing position and while bending forward. Boys and girls are screened separately. Girls should wear a sports bra, bra, or bathing suit under their clothes on the day of the screening.
If your child has a suspected curvature, you will be notified and asked to take them to their physician for further evaluation. If you do not want your child to be screened, please complete the "opt out" portion at the bottom of the form that was sent home, sign and date. If your child is under a physician’s care for a curvature already, please provide a copy of the DPH form 4400 to the school nurse prior to their screening date.
Please contact your school nurse with any questions or concerns.
