While we still have work to do, this momentum shows that GSCS is on the path toward sustained improvement and we will continue pushing forward together. These results show what is possible when everyone is aligned and working with purpose. Today, over 400 Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS) Student Athletes attended the seasonal Beyond Self Athletes Assembly, an event dedicated to empowering the next generation of leaders. Students heard an inspiring keynote address from U.S. Army Veteran and Olympic Gold Medalist Melvin Pender. Also, during the assembly, through a partnership with AT&T and Beyond Self, 50 new laptops were given out to deserving student-athletes from the fall sports season, providing critical technology access to families in the community.
Some student athletes who received a new laptop were nominated by their coach for demonstrating the three R’s: Respect yourself, Respect others and take Responsibility. Others received a laptop for completing the captain’s workshop and serving as Key People of Influence for the winter season. Then, a lucky few were chosen after answering questions correctly about the program and the keynote speaker.

Rehoboth Road Middle School students had an incredible opportunity to visit Southern Crescent Technical College this week for a hands-on introduction to technical education and career pathways. Students explored multiple programs, met instructors and experienced real-world applications of classroom learning. Feedback from both students and teachers has been overwhelmingly positive, with many already expressing new interest in future career options. GSCS appreciates the SCTC staff for organizing such an engaging day and looks forward to the possibility of expanding this experience to all middle schools next year.
