Today’s GSCS Back to School Celebration brought all 1400+ staff together for a motivational kick-off to the 2026-27 school year!
Student leaders welcomed the staff and were emcees for the event. Three GSCS Transportation staff (who have worked for GSCS for a combined 146 years!) kicked off the morning with song. Staff were inspired, moved and motivated by Educator, Author, CEO, and Professional Leadership Coach Jimmy Casas, who was the keynote speaker. A lot of staff recognition occurred with the naming of the 2026 Classified Employees of the Year, Counselor of the Year and Media Specialist of the Year. The 2026-27 Teachers of the Year were celebrated and the District Teacher of the Year, Jane Burke (SHS), was revealed and surprised with a check and free Chick-Fil-A for a year! Thank you to our Partners In Education Chick-Fil-A, Food Depot, Brightmoor, Marukan Vinegar and First Baptist Church who helped make this event great, especially Oak Hill Church for their generosity, hospitality and support! It is “Game On” for this school year!

There is currently a lightning delay at Memorial Stadium. All students and graduation guests should remain in their cars until the lightning delay has passed. We must wait 30 from any lightning strike within a 10 mile radius of the stadium before entering the stadium. We will send an update once the lightning delay is over. Every attempt will be made to have graduation tonight as soon as the weather permits.

Dear Griffin High School Families and Staff,
The start time for tonight's graduation ceremony has been moved up to 6 p.m. in an effort to avoid inclement weather. Gates will still open at 5 p.m. All other details for graduation will remain unchanged. Visit (https://www.gscs.org/page/graduation-class-of-2026) the destination graduation page for the top 10 things you need to know for graduation, parking map and the live stream link. Raincoats and ponchos are encouraged but umbrellas are not permitted in the stadium. All students will be provided a poncho. We have been in constant contact with our meteorology team and they have advised that the chance of inclement weather increases later in the evening. If lightning is detected near our area, the stadium will be evacuated and the ceremony will be delayed until weather permits. Any additional updates will be provided on the GSCS and GHS website, social media, GSCS app, email, phone call and text.

What a special evening celebrating the accomplishments of our GHS seniors at Senior Honors Night! 🎓✨ FNB awarded the John and Virginia Newton Scholarship to GHS Seniors Skyler Carroll and Jocelyn Camacho. This scholarship provides each student with $10,000 per year of college, up to 4 years. FNB also awarded the GHS Valedictorian Skyler Carroll with $1,000 and GHS Salutatorian Zaiden Selby with $500. For 42 years, FNB has supported the brightest and best students of Griffin-Spalding. Thank you to FNB for your continued support! Practice makes perfect! 🎓✨Today, our GHS seniors gathered for graduation practice as they prepare for one of the most exciting milestones of their journey. The anticipation is building, and we are looking forward to celebrating the hard work, memories, and accomplishments of the GHS Class of 2026. #GSCSGrad2026
Yesterday, 3 avid GSCS readers were recognized for their commendable commitment to reading for pleasure! Al Barlow (Crescent Elementary), Addyson Crook (Kennedy Road Middle) & Nathaniel Duffey (Griffin High) received Acer Chromebook tablets courtesy of the GSCS Instructional Technology Department. Students are encouraged to utilize Accelerated Reader and Beanstack to track their reading progress. Accelerated Reader awards points to students based on their performance on reading quizzes. Beanstack tracks the number of minutes that a student reads and logs their progress. GSCS IT stresses the importance of developing students as readers and is very proud of their achievements and desire to be lifelong literate learners!
