JROTC Marching Rifles and Lady Rifles show strong

Griffin High School JROTC Marching Rifles and Lady Rifles finished 2015 Drill and Color Guard competition season with a strong performance at Decatur High School’s JROTC Drill meet.  The Teams won two first place awards, two second place awards, and one third place award.
That momentum carried them to two first place awards at the 2016 Classic City Invitational hosted by Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, GA.  The team’s next meet is Saturday, February 13, 2016 at East Ridge High School in Chattanooga Tennessee.  Go Bears!

AREA 12 Lee McRae Invitational Military Drill Meet

On March 8th, Griffin High School Drill Team participated in the AREA 12 Lee McRae Invitational Military Drill Meet.  It was a beautiful day with many successes for Griffin High! JROTC would like to thank all who supported the cadets and those who came by to watch. Our Cadets made us very proud with their behavior and conduct, they lived up to our motto “We are Griffin”

Wednesday, November 28, 2012 during 4th period in front of their Company, two senior cadets from the Bear Battalion enlisted in the Military to take advantage of the financial and educational opportunities. Cadet Captain Ronald Kelley, Charlie Company Commander enlisted in the Marine Reserve and is applying for a ROTC scholarship to attend North Georgia College and State University. Cadet First Lieutenant Andrea Hines, Executive Officer, Charlie Company enlisted in the Georgia National Guard where she will work in the career field of Human Resources.

JROTC Instructors Receive Award

We are proud to recognize Master Sergeant Derrick Jackson, Master Sergeant Jay Folds, and Sergeant First Class Ronald Polk for their immeasurable support to the cadets and students at Griffin High School and the Griffin/Spalding Community.  Because of their support the Cadets of the Bear Battalion have maintained Honor Unit with Distention scoring 96% or higher on the Cadet Federal Inspection for the past 17 years.  Their hard work did not go unnoticed and they were recently awarded the United States Army Cadet Command Gold Instructor Award by the Department of the Army.  As well as being a continuous strength within GHS, they extended their expertise to play a key role in helping Fayette County High establish the first Army JROTC program in Fayette County.

  • MSG Jackson is the primary instructor for the sophomore class, coach the Raider Team, and tutors cadets/students in math.
  • MSG Folds is the primary instructor for the freshman class, coach the Color Guard, and serve as advisor to the Key Club
  • SFC Polk is the primary instructor for the freshman class, coaches the Drill Team, and has serve as project coordinator of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life at GHS.

GHS JROTC Drill Team places in State Competition

The GHS JROTC Drill Team attended the US Army JROTC State Drill meet Saturday 24 March 2012. A total of 34 schools attended this annual event. When it was all over the Marching Rifles, led by Joshua Hunt, took third place in Armed Platoon Exhibition and Kayla Brantley, the new State Champion, won 1st place in Female Armed Individual Exhibition.

Area 6 Drill Meet

Area 6 is our JROTC State qualifying competition. On the 4th of February the competition was held at Maynard Jackson HS in Atlanta. Eighteen schools showed for the event, including GHS. The following are the results.
